The Administration for Community Living (ACL) is a division of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that funds research and education about older persons and persons with disabilities, and that has promoted SDM in a variety of ways.

The National Council on Disability (NCD) is a federal agency with members appointed by the President and Congress that advises them about “policies, programs, practices and procedures that effect the lives of people with disabilities.” It published two major studies on alternatives to guardianship in 2018 and 2019.
