On January 30, 2020, Westchester County Surrogate Robert R. Sall granted the petition of parents of a 27-year-old autistic man to dissolve the guardianship of the property that had been ordered nine years earlier. Noting the "recent caselaw's [sic] developing emphasis on the least restrictive alternatives to plenary guardianship," Surrogate Sall also instructed the court-appointed guardian ad litem to investigate whether the previously ordered guardianship of the person was still necessary, while ultimately deferring to the parents' assessment that the man is currently not "able to manage his personal and healthcare needs with supports short of plenary guardianship of the person."
