This handbook, aimed at a broad audience from service providers to policy makers, presents a decision-making model that honors the human right and capacity for decision-making in concert with the framework of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). It describes in detail a person's right to legal capacity under the UN CRPD, and how supported decision-making can be a mechanism for empowering and informing a person's legal capacity with appropriate support. An overview of SDM in other countries is provided, along with chapters on the practice of SDM on a practical level.
