Since the SDMNY project began, we have seen people with a wide spectrum of intellectual disabilities, young adults and older persons, with and without guardians, learning about, and then utilizing, supported decision-making with trusted supporters of their own choice. Their use of SDM has advanced and supported their self-determination, decision-making capability, independence, inclusion, and dignity.

There are many stories and testimonials about how SDM has worked for real people; you may access a number of them in our Reference Library. Here is one of our favorites, Gabby’s Story, made by our colleagues at the Autism Self Advocacy Network (ASAN).
